Project title: Twisted Freestanding Oxide Membranes

My research project centers on the fabrication and comprehensive characterization of twisted freestanding oxide membrane devices, with a particular emphasis on electrical measurements. By leveraging twist-angle–induced lattice potential modulation and strain relaxation within moiré patterns formed by atomically flat layers, we can precisely engineer electrical, mechanical, and optical properties. Preliminary theoretical analyses and schematic estimations of electrical conductivity, strain distribution, and ferroelectric polarization in twisted bilayer systems—including both graphene and the standard ferroelectric BaTiO₃—demonstrate that controlled twist angles can dramatically modulate electrical properties across several orders of magnitude. These advances pave the way for multifunctional oxide membranes that enable next-generation, post–Moore’s Law and CMOS-compatible electronic devices with unprecedented tunability.
