Thesis title: Nano Engineered Solid State Ionic Metal Oxides for Near-Room Temperature Oxygen Conductivity- NEMO
In my PhD project, I aim to synthesise the 2D layered Metal oxides (MeOs) based on heterostructure thin films at the nanoscale level. I aim to develop an oxygen ion conductor electrolyte as an alternative to Li-SSBs. Oxygen ion conductors in the nanoscale can offer fast and high ionic conductivity at near room temperature with the electrochemical reaction, particularly for the metal-air battery concept, e.g., zinc-air or aluminium-air battery design. Among the different options to be explored in the project, the focus will be on barium and bismuth oxide-based ionic conductors, e.g., BIMEVOX, which exhibit the highest oxide ion conductivity at the low temperature with the alternative conduction mechanism and the lowest activation energy for the ionic transport process.
